Overview
I am a freelance copy editor and proofreader with more than thirty years of experience in printing and publishing, thorough knowledge of Chicago and AMA styles, and decades-long success building and running a home-based business. I am a consummate professional who is always courteous, always flexible, and always reliable. I’ve built long-term business relationships with most of my clients. My current customers include Heinemann, Stenhouse, and Elsevier. I can help make your work, too, the very best it can be.
My journey in printing and publishing began in 1985 at Sheridan Press, in Hanover, Pennsylvania, proofreading medical and technical journals. I learned printing from the ground up. I cross-trained and worked in many areas of the composition department: typesetting (including tables and equations); desktop publishing; remote input (converting customers’ word-processed files into Xyvision-compatible files, including complex coding structure); computer room; and markup (marking coding on manuscript for typesetters to input).
In 1995, I moved to freelancing for various local printers, and I added major publishers as clients, including Heinemann and Stenhouse (professional books for teachers) and Elsevier (medical journals). In addition to proofreading and copyediting countless single books for Heinemann and Stenhouse, I’ve worked on several series, including Lucy Calkins’ Units of Study, Classroom Essentials, Comprehension Toolkit, Sentence Composing, Who’s Doing the Work?, and Not This, But That. My work for Elsevier currently includes copyediting the Journal of the American College of Radiology and the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Previously, I worked on other journals, including Transplantation Proceedings and Biological Psychiatry/Biological Psychiatry: Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuroimaging. Past work for other customers includes Seminars in Hearing and Speech Language Pathology, along with many other journals.
I look forward to working with you!
