Ben Baker – Designer

I’m a professional artist and illustrator with extensive experience in book, poster, and online illustration. I have a love of sci-fi and the weird and wonderful and how it can be conveyed in a uniquely artistic way. Over the years, I've created illustrations for middle-grade readers and up, collaborating with publishers, councils, and cultural organizations. My work has been featured in galleries and art/illustration festivals both in Sweden and internationally.

I want to create original and tailored artwork that aligns perfectly with each client’s vision so I like an initial meeting to make sure we both understand the scope and feel of the assignment. Then I experiment and sketch several ideas with paints and pencils to discuss and build upon. After feedback and a now clearly defined creative direction I develop these sketches on computer combining analogue and digital techniques to create the final illustration. This method allows for flexibility and easy adjustments through subsequent feedback rounds, culminating in the delivery of the final illustrations in the required formats.

Narratives inspire me, and I like to create stories and a vivid sense of place, even in imaginative settings. I'm particularly interested in themes to do with nature, sociology and technology, which tie into my love of sci-fi literature and the relationship between humans, machines, and the natural/unnatural world.
