My name is Elena. As a book designer, layout artist, and typesetter fluent in both English and German, I have accumulated a wealth of international experience. I thoroughly enjoy collaborating one-on-one with self-published authors, sharing my expertise not only in graphic design but also in the broader field of publishing.
Conversely, I relish the opportunity to work with editors and small publishers, who often present a different set of questions and challenges. Regardless of where you fit in (or if you don’t quite fit either category), I would be delighted to have an initial conversation to learn more about your project.
Before we dive into your project, I'll ask a series of questions to better understand its scope and requirements. I am always eager to find a unique way for your book to enter the world, which often means creating an original artwork for the cover and possibly some unique fleurons if fitting. However, we can discuss the endless possibilities and determine what works best for you and your audience. Once we're on the same page and everything is clear, we can move forward to the main phase of the project.

I am an independent book designer and typesetter mostly orbiting the publishing and education industries. I have worked for academic institutions, non-profits with a focus on children's art education, and more. My expertise is in advanced typesetting and cover design, but I frequently layout magazines, work on illustrations, and more.
Calme Mara Verlag
Calme Mara Press, a young publishing house, was founded to share the true stories of the animals at the Sentana Village sanctuary. I have been part of the team as an independent designer and typesetter almost since its inception. The press has since expanded its topics to include inclusion, diversity, and emotions, while its core focus remains on animal and environmental protection. In line with this mission, Calme Mara Press produces its books using vegan materials. The proceeds support the social projects and animal protection activities of the Sentana Foundation. We have collaborated on some beautiful children's book projects.
Hebrew Union College Press (Academic Press)
Founded in 1921, Hebrew Union College Press publishes academic literature and one of the most esteemed journals in Jewish Studies. I am honored to serve as one of their cover designers and typesetters. HUC Press produces scholarly books in the humanities, encompassing poetry, language, literature, religion, philosophy, history, and more. Committed to their mission, the press collaborates closely with authors and a diverse team of publishing professionals. I have had the privilege of contributing to several major book projects, each presenting unique and rewarding challenges.
