Ashley Dodge – Editor

Editor, creative thinker, strategist, learner. I help authors bring ideas to life!

Overview

I'm an accomplished editor with over 20 years experience working with authors to develop books on a wide variety of topics. I've been called "the author whisperer" for my ability to calm folks down during tough times and inspire them to do great work! Most of my work has been in non-fiction, especially in the humanities and social sciences, I've worked with hundreds of authors on projects tiny and huge. I can help to refine a book concept, work to create a plan, and keep authors from going off-track (either in idea or timeline). Did you set out to write a book about the life of Michelangelo ? Why are you spending so many chapters discussing the other Ninja Turtles, then? Did you intend to finish your project over the summer? If so, what's the deal with that Appalachian Trail hike you're also planning? Is your book intended to be an inspiring page-turner? I just fell asleep three times trying to read that last paragraph - let's lighten it up! In short, what is the idea, and how do we best execute it?People enjoy working with me because I listen. I also return calls and emails, keep promises about getting work done for authors, whether reading/editing a chapter, or doing research for marketing a project. Editorial work requires a long-term vision, and I'm good at helping authors get to the finish line without taking too many detours.
