Overview
I am a thorough and incisive editor, and I can offer services ranging from a basic proofread to more substantial structural edit. I have edited texts ranging from a philosophical commentary to a handbook about navigating the difficult path of prostate cancer diagnosis. I am also highly skilled at polishing work for academic audiences, having published my own work and written a PhD thesis in the field of Early Modern Literature. I strive to ensure that I understand an author's goals and style comprehensively before undertaking any editing, and I am always open to discussing and revising my suggested changes according to the author's instincts. I intend editorial work to be a collaborative process: I am here to ensure that your work is doing itself and you justice, not to demand changes according to my own personal or creative preferences (although I'm equally happy to offer candid advice, if that's what you need)! I won't pull my punches, and I am a perfectionist, which means that you may get back some work with a lot of (virtual) red pen on it, but from experience I know that this is the best way to take your work to another level. I am open to a wide range of genres. Academically, my focus has been literature and history, particularly of the period around 1500-1700, but the joy of editorial work is that it introduces you to a whole range of topics you may never before have discovered. Outside of my formal studies, for instance, I am as fascinated by books about travel and adventure as I am by books on psychology and physiology. I am particularly keen to work with non-fiction authors, and authors of biographies and memoirs.
