Overview
Words are my passion. One of those kids who'd point it out when the teacher misspelled a word on the blackboard, I turned that trait into a career.
It's my goal to help you find the right words to meet your needs. As someone who has guided over a dozen books from the writing stage to publication, I have the skills to take you through the process. From assessment to the final edit, you can rely on my expertise to help make your writing the best it can be.
Honest, straightforward, and to the point, I'll be clear about what works and what doesn't. I'm respectful of the hard work that goes into writing and will give you the feedback needed to help you succeed.
My editorial assessments consider the big picture and provide frank evaluations and suggestions. As a developmental editor, I'll help you focus on and refine themes, develop characters, and correct inconsistencies. As a copy editor or proofreader, I wield my metaphorical red pen ferociously, with a sharp eye for detail and extensive familiarity with the AP, APA, and Chicago style books. My bids include free Zoom meetings to touch base and review progress, if desired. I'm also available for consultations to determine what phase your book is in and what your next steps should be.
Although my background is in non-fiction and trivia, I'm comfortable editing and proofreading any subject matter. I'd love to add fiction to my resume, so don't hesitate if that's your genre.

Copy editing the illustrated children's book, A Home for Ralph, by author TJ Lee (available and viewable at Barnes and Noble).
A sweet story about a rescue cat, this book was a pleasure to work on.

As a contracted freelancer with eZdia, I have been instrumental in the growth of the SaaS SEO content-creation company. The fledgling company’s first editor, I helped to build a team of qualified writers. Many of my early suggestions were implemented to streamline the hiring and project management processes. I helped to develop a system for onboarding new writers and was responsible for approving new hires while it was being implemented. As the company built out their in-house writing and editing platform, my input was invaluable and led to numerous improvements to the software. Over eight years with the company, I have acted variously as Project Manager, Editor, and QA, as needed per SEO project.

During my time with Portable Press, I was lucky enough to work with John Javna. Collaborating with John was a career highlight. As an editor, I helped him to revise and update his best-selling book on environmental activism, leading to the input of new, more relevant information. I also proofread the revised edition for errors and edited for tone and content. I am credited by name in the acknowledgements.

Marley Rides is an uplifting story about tragic loss. The story of how a teenager’s fight with cancer built an online network, it showcases how networking with community fosters courage, combines skills and builds strength. I was honored to be asked to proofread and my input helped to shape the book’s message. As editor, I honed the story, making cuts and asking for additions to bring the message fully into focus. I am credited by name as editor.

In 11 years with Portable Press, I advanced rapidly from copywriter to associate editor. A freelance contractor, I was a valued member of the team, working both on-site and remotely and attending all meetings and planning sessions. My input was responsible for the creation of the role of fact checker, an indispensable element for the trivia series. Several titles were developed based on my suggestions, and I was wholly responsible for the creation of the book 'Did You Know?', from pitch to creation to final edit. The company released from 1 -5 new books per year. I worked on nearly every one published during my time with the company and am credited by name in each.
