Andrea Colvin

Andrea Colvin – Editor

Editor with two+ decades of experience at both small and large (big five) publishers, specializing in YA, children's, and illustrated works.

Overview

I have held many roles in the publishing industry, from tech news reporter (in the 1990s when all news was tech news!) to proofreader and copyeditor to editor in chief of a small indie publisher and editorial director at a big five publisher. In this time I've worked on children's illustrated books (from picture books to early readers to graphic novels to YA), art books, cookbooks, memoir, even some adult nonfiction. My sweet spot is fiction aimed at young people--from emerging readers through YA--both prose, highly illustrated, and graphic storytelling.

I approach editing as a detailed and sympathetic reaction to your text. My role is to understand what you are trying to accomplish and then to help you do that in the best and most successful way possible. I work from the perspective that this is YOUR book, not mine, and my goal is to preserve your voice and your storytelling while also working with you to make your work well-paced, well-structured, and ready for publication.
