Amber Hatch

Amber Hatch – Editor

I have five books published in 17 languages. I'm clearsighted, considerate and affordable. I love authentic voices and powerful tales.

Overview

About me:
I have published five books in wellbeing and parenting with major publishers and my work has been translated into 17 languages. I have titles published by Penguin Random House (2015), Watkins Publishing (2015, 2016, & 2017) and Little, Brown (2017). Alongside my own writing and raising my children, I have worked as a freelance editor and manuscript assessor (fiction and non-fiction) for ten years including for Watkins Publishing. I have an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University (distinction). I have taught writing skills at Oxford University and Creative Writing for Wellbeing for mental health charity Mind.

How I work:
It's my passion to help you communicate as strongly as you can. I can help you recognise the strengths and weaknesses in your work and guide you to fix problems. Whether you are self-publishing or going down the traditional publishing route, I can help you shape up your manuscript so that you tell your story with authenticity and power.

I offer manuscript assessments, development editing and copyediting. I also enjoy working with authors over a longer time frame and can offer a mentoring package. I am also available as a ghostwriter.

My fees are fair and affordable, and I can offer a fast turnaround if time is short.

Fiction - I have a particular interest in children's and literary.

Non-fiction - I specialise in wellbeing and memoir.

“Amber doesn’t pull any punches and lets you know what is working and what is not. If you want somebody who will tell you your work is ‘nice’, Amber is not for you. On the other hand, if you want someone who will make your work publishable, Amber will help you get there. She’s brilliant and knows what works.” (This author went on to strike a four-book deal with Bloomsbury.)

Working with Amber is efficient from start to finish and you are left wondering - did that really happen? Am I really at this stage of my manuscript now? The work you get back is clean and professional and ready to use for your next step of the editing journey. I cannot recommend her services enough and if I get as far as a second book, I will contact her again.

I recommend Amber highly and without reservation. She was responsive and professional. Her developmental feedback on my narrative nonfiction draft was thoughtful and thought-provoking, Her work was top notch, and her charges were very reasonable.

Amber has been brilliant so far. The attention to detail and my aims for the story were fully considered. Unfortunately I have not been able to progress any further at this stage but that has nothing to do with Amber. As soon as I am in a position to continue to the next stage I would have no hesitation in working with Amber again

Amber was brilliant to work with. I hired her to do a structural/developmental edit. She was incredibly thorough and provided me with clear instruction about what was working and what wasn't working in my plot. Amber provides a report that contains an overview as well as detailed items of concern chapter by chapter. She also gives you a marked up version of your manuscript with inline comments....
