Overview
I'm a freelance editor with experience across the comics industry: major direct market publishers (including Image Comics, Comixology, and DSTLRY), small press anthologies, web comics, and self-published creators. I'm most passionate about horror (especially gothic and monster stories) and slice of life, but comics that defy easy genre categorization are the most exciting!
No matter the genre, I work best with stories that prioritize characters and their relationships. Whether your story takes place in an office, the distant past, or a far-off magical world, we'll talk about what your storytelling goals are and how your characters help you achieve those goals. To me, those are the building blocks of the narrative: who are these characters and what are you using them to say? My role is to help you clarify your vision and communicate it to your ideal reader!
Comics are a visual medium, so my editorial feedback doesn't stop at scripts: I'll ferry your comic from outline all the way to finished lettering, providing feedback and project management along the way. Need someone to keep track of deadlines, organize files, and follow up with your collaborators? I'm your gal!
Here's what some previous clients had to say:
"Allison is a meticulous editor. Her notes are always really thoughtful, and given with enough freedom that it really inspires me to think on the note and approach it from a way I might not originally expect. My work is always better for having gone through Allison's hands!" -Nadia Shammas
"Allison was the first editor I worked with, and she has set the bar high! She was invaluable in getting the first graphic novel I worked on ready for print. She is insightful and precise in her editing, and I would work with her again in a heartbeat!" - Sam Beck
