Abi Patteson – Designer

I’ve been freelancing illustration work since 2019 and immerse myself in art of many forms — I believe that pottery and painting and all sort of other creative work has informed my illustration styles and helps me think outside of the box.

My work has been described as magical, whimsical, textured, and nostalgic. I’m mostly inspired by nature and I prefer animal characters/subjects; those were my favorite picture books as a kid, too! I’m a strong scene builder, meaning that the background and setting of an illustration means just as much to me as the subject itself. My style varies a little depending on the feel I’m going for, whether it’s strong linework or a softer, penciled feel.

I’m a huge believer in clear communication in the early stages so as to avoid confusion or rushing later. I’ll talk to you about your vision and I’ll need details like page count and the content on pages, and from there I’ll draft out sketches.
