Overview

Scientific writing doesn’t have to be overly complex and opaque to effectively convey your points! With my experience as an acquisition editor at Springer Nature, I will work with you to ensure clarity and concision in your writing, and will discuss the most efficient book and chapter structure to communicate your ideas to your intended audience.

I specialize in academic books and journal articles in industrial/organizational psychology, clinical psychology, criminology, and social work; however, I am open to academic projects across all behavioral science disciplines. Drawing on my in-house experience, I can advise on how to tailor proposals for maximum publisher appeal, including writing effective marketing text and shaping your work to target particular audiences. I’m happy to adapt my services based on the needs of your specific project, ranging from a full evaluation of your book’s structure, style, and scope to a shorter consultation on the best way to approach publishers with a manuscript proposal.

My background is in English literature and psychology, and in addition to academic writing, I am equally enthusiastic to take on fiction projects. I am passionate about high-concept speculative fiction, graphic novels, and podcasts/audio dramas, and have experience writing for children’s educational media.

Sofia's ability to couch guidance and criticism in a digestible manner is rare. Her editorial letter shone a flashlight into the dark corners of my writing and exposed a few rotten beams and a possum's nest. I definitely plan to work with her again. But first, the possums.

Sofia has been wonderful to work with. She is organized and thorough, and provided an outline of her process, including expectations for meetings and a timeline. She also provided summaries of each conversation we had. Sofia’s editing notes were comprehensive and valuable. She definitely made my writing better, and did so with kindness and consistency. I definitely plan to use her services again.
