I was employed at SpringerNature from January 1998 to December 2020, initially as the senior research editor on The Statesman's Yearbook (an annual publication of 1.4 million words covering the politics, economies and culture of all of the countries of the world plus major international organizations) and from January 2014 as the publisher. As well as The Statesman's Yearbook itself, I also worked on a one-off publication called UK Today and a series of spinoffs on individual countries or geographical areas ('FactBooks').

I was a deputy editor on the Guinness Book of Records (now Guinness World Records), compiling, editing and proofreading records on a wide range of fascinating topics. I appeared on TV a few times too, invigilating record attempts in – among others – fastest bed making, fastest window cleaning, greatest number of beer crates balanced on the head and longest paper airplane flight!
