Freelance copy editor and proofreader with experience working on a broad range of texts and with a specialization in academic publications.
I have been working with texts in various ways for over a decade, including as a tutor in university writing centers, as an instructor/grader in introductory and mid-level philosophy courses, as a researcher for academic publications, and as a freelance copy editor and proofreader. I have copyedited and proofread books on topics ranging from psychology and psychoanalysis to philosophy, from a history of the concept of chastity to a biography of Marilyn Monroe. In addition to books, I’ve copy edited and proofread several issues of an art and photography magazine and several graduate theses on art, design, and sustainability. By working with texts and their creators in these different ways, I’ve developed strong written and verbal communication skills as well as an ability to critically engage with texts on several different levels at once.
I received my B.A. in the highly interdisciplinary Critical and Visual Studies major at Pratt Institute and my M.A. in Philosophy at Duquesne University. I am currently finishing work on my Ph.D. in Philosophy at Duquesne (with a Concentration in Women’s and Gender Studies). My academic and service work at Duquesne has primarily revolved around diversity, equity, and inclusion and theories of race, gender, sexuality, and disability.
While much of my copy editing and proofreading work has been in the fields of philosophy and psychology, I am familiar with and able to work within other discourses in the liberal arts and humanities. I have editorial experience at both the macroscopic and microscopic levels, from big-picture flow of themes to sentence-level argumentative nuances. I have a sharp eye for grammatical errors, syntactic flaws, and typographical mistakes and a keen nose for citational and formatting inconsistencies and oversights.
