I specialize in Arab American Studies, Black Studies, Comparative Literature, and Disability Studies. I've written two academic books and one poetry collection. I've also edited three academic volumes. I bring decades of experience as a researcher, writer, and professor to my work. I research and teach in the areas of Arab American Studies, Black Studies, Comparative Literature, and Disability Studies. I am an internationally known scholar in all four fields because my own ground-breaking and field defining work in Comparative Ethnic Studies and Black Disability Studies. I have written two academic monographs: New Body Politics (Routledge, 2014), and Black Madness :: Mad Blackness (Duke 2019). I have edited two special issues of scholarly journals: African American Review (2017) and College Language Association (2021). I have edited a scholarly collection: Arab American Aesthetics (Routledge 2018). I wrote a collection of poetry: What Had Happened Was (Duke 2015)
