Teresa Bonaddio

Teresa Bonaddio – Designer

Professional graphic designer, with 15 years experience in children's book publishing, helping books have a voice & be heard.

Overview

I value curiosity, play, and hard work to bring out the best in every project. Telling your story can feel really scary, I know, and I'm here for you! In my professional life in children's book publishing, I've been an editor, writer, proofreader, copy editor, designer, and illustrator. If there's one thing I've learned it's that there are no magic formulas in publishing—there are magical people (or, at least, skilled and creative ones!).

The best books are made in great collaborations and with great trust. Whether you have a picture book in need of art direction, or a middle grade or young adult novel calling out for a cover and/or interior design layout, let my skills lead the way to bring your book baby to life.

Work experience

Self-employed

Mar, 2018 — Present

From June 2009 to February 2018, I worked independently and collaboratively utilizing my creative and varied skills on a part-time freelance basis—March 2018 marked the launch of my full-time creative business journey. I specialize in book publishing, but I always stay open to projects in different forms. On the editorial side, I develop, write, edit, copy edit, and proofread fiction and nonfiction projects in many shapes and sizes. While on the illustration and design side, I live in Adobe Creative Suite (but still love and utilize analog tools) and enjoy consulting with clients to help come up with creative solutions for any project.

Running Press Book Publishers

May, 2013 — Feb, 2018 (almost 5 years)

After 4 years of life's great adventures, I entered my second life at Running Press, but this time as a Designer, specializing in kids' books (my passion!). I collaborated heavily with editorial and production, from book concept ideations all the way to finished product—designing and art directing not only interiors and covers, but sometimes new formats as well. A good day, for me, was any day that I got to make something on screen or in person, and work with great people to meet our goals. I worked as Designer for the RP Kids/Teen and Miniature Edition imprints from 2013 to 2015 and then was promoted to Senior Designer and held that title from 2015 to 2018.

Running Press Book Publishers

Sep, 2004 — Jul, 2009 (almost 5 years)

I worked as Assistant to the Editorial Director from 2004 to 2005 and then was promoted to Assistant Editor and held that title from 2005 to 2007. Throughout my timespan, I acquired children’s, middle grade, and teen books, while also developing and acquiring for the Miniature Edition imprint. Additionally, I assisted with marketing efforts to position and support each book I project managed. The best part of my job was working collaboratively across in-house departments and outside of the company with authors, illustrators, licensors, and other industry professionals.

I tried adding a page to my already published book. Unfortunately, my efforts did not succeed. It was Teresa to the rescue. She is an expert at her craft and a gracious one to boot. I couldn't have been more pleased. Thank you Teresa!
