Overview
With a passion for reading and writing, I always wanted to be someone who could make a career in the making of books. I pursued a programme in editing and publishing at The Seagull School of Publishing, a premier training course in publishing run by industry professionals. We had hands-on training and interacted with renowned editors, authors, and other visiting faculty from all over the world. In my time there, I honed my skills as an editor and learnt the nitty-gritty of publishing. I was also lucky to have interned with Seagull Books, where I brushed up my editorial skills a great deal. There was no looking back after that. I worked for some time with Ponytale Books, a children's book publisher, and was awed at how books for kids have a more creative and different outlook on life, spinning tales of magic, fantasy, adventure, and life lessons through fun reads. Thereafter, I freelanced with Oxford University Press as a copy-editor, and edited popular academic and fiction titles. I worked on different styles like APA/Chicago manual, expanded my knowledge on sources and citations, and even sharpened my skills in editing bibliographies. In 2017, I joined Niyogi Books in Delhi, where I had the opportunity to handle manuscripts independently and see them through the stages of reviewing, editing, proofing, and checking book dummies before sending them for printing. At Niyogi, I wore many hats. Besides editing different genres, including fiction, non-fiction, illustrated books, and academic titles, among others, I also crafted engaging posts for our blog and assisted the marketing team in putting them up. Storytelling is a bee in my bonnet. I have always taken inspiration from the imaginations of an author. Words have magic, and it is my love for words that stirs me up to spill my thoughts and ideas into paper. My favourite genres are children's classics, historical fiction, regency romance, and literary fiction, and I love reading and re-reading classics!Fixing grammatical errors and spellings, spotting inconsistencies and gaps in the narrative, developing the plot sequentially, working in liaison with authors and designers, checking facts, polishing the text, and delivering error-free work are my areas of expertise.I'm glad to have found my calling in the beautiful world of books. It gives me no greater joy than reading a wonderful book, writing an enjoyable story, and pruning a work to make it engaging for readers.
