Staci Kleinmaier

Staci Kleinmaier – Editor

Your story matters. Literary editor with 10+ years in memoir, essays & poetry. I help writers bring honesty and craft to the page.

Overview

Hi, I’m Staci, a professional editor and writer with more than a decade of experience, including working as an editor for The Sun magazine, an award-winning literary journal known for publishing unflinching memoir, short stories, and poetry that promote connection and empathy.

I’ve worked with writers crafting personal essays that grappled with loss, contradiction, and hard truths; fiction that honored complexity over resolution; and poetry that resisted easy answers. I believe the best editing happens in conversation—not as correction, but as collaboration. Your story already has a voice. My job is to help you hear it more clearly.

My approach is personalized and unhurried. I engage your work with curiosity and respect, honoring your writer's instinct while offering the clarity that comes from an outside perspective. I offer developmental editing that helps you see the architecture of your story, line editing that sharpens without stripping your voice, and copyediting that honors both correctness and your intentions.

My favorite topics to work on include parenting and family relationships, addiction, identity and body image, gender and feminism, LGBTQIA+ and sexuality, and environment and climate change—but I'm drawn to any manuscript that's doing the hard work of telling the truth.

If you're looking for an editor who treats your manuscript with seriousness, who understands that writing is an act of courage, and who will meet you where you are, let's talk. Whether you intend your writing for a worldwide audience or as a treasured keepsake for your family, I'd love to help.
