Stacey Goitia

Stacey Goitia – Editor

Eighteen+ years editing cozy mysteries and more. Gentle and detailed with my clients. I have yet to edit a person who didn't get published!

Overview

Over two decades ago, I edited three friends' manuscripts all the way to the New York Times bestselling lists - and that was my first experience editing! I've been a business owner, an award-winning writer, and even a high school Language Arts teacher. I have attended writers' conferences for over ten years, all over the U.S. to learn the best ways to edit and write in order to succeed in the industry.

For more than seventeen years, I have professionally edited all levels, from Editorial Assessment to Proofreading. I'm a detail-oriented person and have been told I catch things no one else has. I'm also a teacher. I will show you what to do to succeed, from fixing pesky errors publishers look for to weed out writers to filling plot holes you didn't know you had, along with helping with characters whose traits may be unbecoming of a hero/heroine, and aiding with anything else standing in the way of you getting published. Many writers get tossed aside simply because they didn't know what publishers wanted -- and spoiler alert -- they will never tell you. Most are just too busy. But I will.

I specialize in cozy mysteries and sci fi, but I have experience in romance, comedy, edgy mystery, thrillers, and other mainstream fiction. Don't beat your head against a wall trying to figure out what agents and publishers want - I have built the experience to help you in ways few editors can! Work experience

Self-employed

Jan, 2010 — Present

As a young woman, I wrote articles for ten+ years for marketing companies and a family-owned eatery. I later owned a graphic design/marketing company called Graphicomm, making $175/hour. Raising two toddlers with rare medical needs, I sold my high-stress business.

I met three lovely ladies on their way to getting published and enjoyed editing their books, helping them to become New York Times Best-Sellers. I also wrote five of my own and am published in an anthology. I received a Master's in Education and taught English, Social Studies, Career Enhancement, Edgenuity, and Cross-Content Art to at-risk teens.

My true roots are in editing, and I'm back to helping people bring out the best in their writing to get published. I have experience in: Cozy Mystery, Edgy Mystery, Romantic Comedy, Science Fiction, Dystopian, Sci Fi Romance, Fantasy, Mystery Series, Women's Fiction, Comedy Fiction, Magical Reality, Middle Grade Fiction, and Memoirs.

Stacey is a pro. She did a fantastic job at developmental editing and proofreading while keeping the story and message of my manuscript intact. She tirelessly combed through my book, notifying me of what I needed to fix and letting me know what I did well, as a fun bonus. I have learned a lot about the writing process during this collaboration and feel like I am a better writer because of her. ...

Stacey is a wonderful editor, very thorough, hard-working and knowledgeable. She went through my manuscript very thoroughly, with both edits and comments, as well as a summary of points to improve it, twice. Which was good value. You have to be patient. She is very systematic and you may wait a few weeks, as agreed in your contract with her, before she sends the manuscript back, again with many...

Stacey clearly has experience in the Cozy Mystery genre. She provided feedback from the smallest issue with syntax to overarching questions about my plot and characters. Her careful review of grammar, sentence structure, syntax and style absolutely improved the quality of my manuscript. She shared insider tips on all kinds of things I had no idea might trigger a rejection. She was responsive to...
