Copy editor, proofreader, and developmental editor with 20 years of experience across a wide range of nonfiction and fiction subjects.
Overview
I have 20 years of editing experience across a wide range of nonfiction subjects, from travel guides to encyclopedias. I have edited books for a number of university presses as well as for Penguin Random House, Rowman and Littlefield, Greenwood Publishing, ABC-CLIO, and Globe-Pequot Press. I am proficient in the use of Chicago, APA, and MLA style guides, and I am able to do both online and hard-copy editing. My first job in the publishing industry was as a production assistant for the manufacturing department at Greenwood Publishing Group. This position afforded me the opportunity to attend a book manufacturing seminar at Edwards Brothers, Inc., in Ann Arbor, Michigan. My experience in manufacturing gave me insight into the finer developmental details of publishing books and working with book vendors. From there, I went on to become an assistant production editor and was able to work directly with authors on the completion of their works. I think it's really special that I've had the opportunity to work at so many levels of the book production process, witnessing exactly how a book is shepherded from its first stages as a manuscript to its final stage as a bound book. I have found that my greatest strength is in working directly with the content of the books themselves, and I am always seeking to expand my range of skill and experience in editing. I enjoy the detail-oriented nature of copy editing and proofreading, and I work hard to treat every author’s work as I would want my own work to be treated. If you want to know who I am as a person, I can tell you I’m as passionate about books as I am about my menagerie of shelter pets, which includes two tripawds!
