Sandra Goroff – Publicist

I am an award-winning veteran literary and art publicist based in Boston. I work with all kinds of authors in the US and internationally.

Overview

I am an award winning literary and art publicist based in the US and have worked with a wide variety of books, authors, experts, celebrities and publishers.

I began my career in 1982 at Houghton Mifflin's Boston based headquarters, where I promoted authors including a former US president, a world famous economist, a James Bond private eye and a shipwrecked sailor. I was chosen as one of the top 100 marketers by Advertising Age Magazine for my promotion of the bestselling American Heritage Dictionary, Third Edition.

I later formed my own company and continue to work with both major publishers and individual authors on projects and ongoing publicity efforts. My media contacts are exceptional and provide unparalleled access to major print, broadcast and social media.

I also was an adjunct professor in the graduate publishing and writing program at Boston's Emerson College, where I taught Book Marketing and Promotion.

I enjoy working closely with my clients, am an early riser and a middle of the night emailer. I love a challenge and will work above and beyond to accomplish our goals, having fun in the process.

I offer full publicity services with an expertise in media placement. I also offer publicity consultations and help aspiring authors organize and prepare an agent/publishing proposal.

Work experience

Self-employed

Jan, 1994 — Present

As a veteran literary and art publicist, I have worked with individuals, major publishers, museums, organizations and a myriad of other creatives placing major print, broadcast and social media features, increasing visibility and stimulating sales.

My placements have included features on national shows including CBS Sunday Morning, National Public Radio and The New York Times. I maintain excellent long term contacts which provide unusually high level access. I enjoy working with clients in the US and internationally. While I have, and continue to work on a variety of subjects and genres, my personal specialties and interests include architecture, art, antiques, nature and design.

As a publicist at Houghton Mifflin over the years, I promoted such bestselling and well known authors as former President Jimmy Carter, Tracy Kidder, John Kenneth Galbraith, Chris VanAllsburg, Margret Rey, Maurice Sendak, Jane Goodall, Archibald Cox and Steven Callahan, author of Adrift 76 Days Lost at Sea.

Projects

Personal Publicist for bestselling author Clive Cussler

I worked with bestselling author Clive Cussler on a number of projects including his only non-fiction book, The Sea Hunters, which wound up at number 1 on The New York Times Best Seller list. I placed many national broadcast and print features for Cussler including CBS Sunday Morning and USA Today and Men's Journal. I worked on several other books w Cussler.

The House At Lobster Cove by jane Goodrich

This a wonderful historical fiction. Achieved high level Print and broadcast coverage nationally and regionally with significant placements such as a six page excerpt in Yankee magazine and a two page feature in the Boston Sunday globe. And a full color four page spread in Maine Magazine and The Portland Press Herald. The House At Lobster Cove is now its 4th printing.

My husband and I co-wrote a book together with the intention of self-publishing, but after speaking to Sandy, decided to try our luck at finding an agent and getting traditionally published.
