With more than five years of editorial and publishing experience, I am passionate about working with writers to develop their stories. I love being introduced to new places by passionate writers and to collaborate with them to strengthen characters, world-building, and plot.
I developed content for toys created by some of the worlds most talented toy designers during my time as an editor at Mattel. I also worked closely with writers in-house and with editors at global publishers (Little Brown for Young Readers, Penguin Random House, Egmont, Hachette France, etc.) to create content that aligned with beloved heritage brands. Whether it was expanding the world of Barbie with new friends and family in Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures or developing the world of Everwilde where the Enchantimals live with their animal besties, there were plenty of unique developmental opportunities across brands and formats. Formats included 8x8 storybooks, leveled-readers, coloring & activity books, middle-grade readers, and non-fiction titles (cooking, party planning, coding, etc.)
I have immersed myself in children's media for my entire career. From books to movies, from YouTube channels to toys, and digital games, kids entertainment is one thing I know plenty about. I enjoy collaborating and listening to what writers want to achieve with a project while providing construtive feedback. I'll bring creative solutions that elevate your story to the best that it can be. I can't wait to meet your characters and share my unique knowledge and experience.
While at Mattel I developed manuscripts and content guides for Barbie, Enchantimals, Ever After High, and new IP. These projects spanned various themes and formats including 8x8 storybooks, leveled readers, middle-grade chapter books, and non-fiction activity books.
One of my favorite projects was developing the first ever Enchantimals middle- grade chapter books. I worked closely with the tv showrunner and the writing team to craft these new character personalities, their relationships, and the world of Everwilde where they live with their animal besties. These chapter books launched the brand and the stories we developed were later picked up by various content teams. It was inspiring to work with various writers and teams to develop the new world full of vibrant and hilarious characters.
I was also constantly developing new Barbie stories and consulting on content for various other teams during one of the most exciting times to be working with the infamous doll brand. I pitched new career stories and hired writers who successfully advanced the message You Can Be Anything. One of the biggest endeavors was Barbie Code Camp with Friends in which I worked closely with both the writer and a computer programming experts to develop a groundbreaking Barbie title. This title married storytelling with non-fiction information synthesized and simplified for young readers. I also provided developmental editing feedback to projects that featured storytelling beyond books like the Barbie STEM kits. Finally, I helped develop new formats like Barbie comics and a Barbie cookbook.
While working at DreamWorks Animation SKG, I became intimately knowledgeable about the licensed book business. I worked especially close with filmmakers and franchise developers to make sure writers had the latest content reference. I also worked with the vertical publishing department to brainstorm and develop titles that went beyond the initial source material whether it was a movie or a television show.
As an Arts and Entertainment editor, I worked with writers in a fast-paced newspaper environment to produce a daily section chock full of informative and entertaining pieces. I worked closely with writers of various experience to craft engaging stories for the UCLA community. I loved working with new writers who were excited and passionate about journalism, arts, culture, film, television, theater, and (most of all) great storytelling. Sitting with a writer in a windowless, college newsroom was never dull as we crossed every T and rewrote ledes while the production clock counted down in the background.
I also served as the Editorial Director for the quarterly lifestyle magazine, Prime. This meant working closely with select writers to develop longer, more time-intensive stories and interviews. I'm proud to say that the 2012 spring issue of Prime won that year's Pacemaker from the Associated Collegiate Press.
