Hi! I'm Samira, a thirty-one-year-old New York native, NYU graduate, and designer with the Penguin Young Readers Group. For over five years I've specialized in covers for the Middle Grade and Young Adult market, working closely with editors and authors to create an outstanding final product. My finished samples below show the range of my work. I'm book obsessed, so no genre can contain me! From contemporary children's fiction to supernatural horror, my goal is to develop a cover that's just right for the story you're telling. I put visual market research into each one of my projects to make sure your book's art sits nicely beside what's selling today, but also rises above current trends in unique ways.If you choose to work with me, we'll begin by discussing the scope of the project and contractually agreeing on a schedule and budget. My fee is flexible based on the work required (i.e. full printed jacket wrap vs. digital cover only), so the more I know the more I can tailor it towards your needs. After that, my process involves a simple questionnaire to help us get on the same page towards fulfilling your vision (i.e. What trim sizes are you considering? What other covers do you love? What mood do you want to set? Etc.). When the design process is underway, we'll go through 2-4 rounds of designs, incorporating your feedback at every stage, however specific you'd like to be.
