Rebecca Demarest

Rebecca Demarest – Designer

I am an award-winning book designer, author, and writing coach/instructor who is familiar with both traditional and independent avenues.

Overview

I am an author by training and a technical illustrator by trade, and I have 9 years experience with writing, coaching writers, creating book designs, and guiding folks through the publishing process. I teach classes for youth and adults, do one-on-one coaching for writers looking to make the next step forward, and I love coming up with lesson plans for Clarion West and elsewhere. If you're trying to figure out how to make the next step on your manuscript, or create an eye-catching book design, I'm your girl. I work with you to figure out the best ways forward and what you want to see in a finished product, whatever your goals.

I am in charge of all design aspects of the Seattle Play Series, from promotional material, to book and logo design.

I spend my 9-5 creating technical illustrations for O'Reilly Media and doing odd design and editing jobs around the department as needed.

Redivider Literary Journal at Emerson College

Jan, 2010 — May, 2011 (over 1 year)

Created book covers for each edition from submitted art, laid out the interior of the journal, and produced marketing materials for the journal. Also represented the journal at the annual Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) conference.

Freelance

I design covers, interior layouts for print books, prep manuscripts for digital conversion, and just generally take your book from edited manuscript to published product.
