A versatile editor and proofreader with 8+ years of in-house experience (PRH, DK, Egmont UK and Gill Books) in both fiction and non-fiction.
Overview
I'm a copy-editor, proofreader and editorial consultant with over eight years of experience at some of the largest publishing houses in the UK (including Penguin Random House, Egmont UK and DK) and Ireland (Gill Books). Following a relocation in 2018, I've been freelancing full time and am happy to take on projects across a wide variety of genres and age groups. I have significant experience in non-fiction titles, including biography/memoir and travel writing, and have also worked across fiction books from preschool through to adult.
I love working closely with first-time authors, and provide clear, collaborative – and sensitive! – feedback to ensure that the potential of every project is realised, whether your manuscript is in need of structural development or a light polish, and everything in between.
■ I currently take on editing projects on a remote, freelance basis, primarily providing developmental edits for new fiction writers. I have also continued to work closely with DK, both writing and editing travel content. I was based in Toronto, Canada, prior to returning to the UK in December 2020, so I am comfortable working across a number of time zones.
Gill Books
May, 2021 —
May, 2023
(about 2 years)
■ I had editorial responsibility for around 20 titles per year, a heavy workload that demanded significant flexibility and an ability to work at pace. I edited both fiction and non-fiction (including full-length straight text and heavily illustrated titles such as cookbooks).
■ Gill’s publishing model meant that I was most frequently working with first-time authors, and it was rewarding to be able to offer editorial feedback from an early stage and shepherd manuscripts through to publication.

■ I had editorial responsibility for around 20 titles a year, a heavy workload that demanded significant flexibility and an ability to work at pace. I worked across both fiction and non-fiction (including full-length straight text and heavily illustrated titles such as cookbooks, as well as some children's fiction). Gill's publishing model meant that I was most frequently working with first-time authors, so I have experience of editing raw manuscripts and offering feedback from an early stage.
DK
May, 2016 —
Sep, 2018
(over 2 years)
■ I was a member of the DK Travel editorial team, where I looked after over titles across their bestselling Eyewitness list, including acting as a lead editor on initial titles for their relaunched series. I was responsible for coordinating the editorial update from beginning to end – from commissioning new content to carrying out final proofreading checks before print, as well as ensuring that all aspects of the update remained within budget.
Penguin Random House UK
May, 2015 —
Mar, 2016
(10 months)
■ I worked within the PRH Children’s licensing team, looking after both fiction and non-fiction for brands across a range of age groups. As the primary editorial contact, I would put together a programme of what I suggested that we publish annually and then guide the proposed projects through to development – from costing formats with our production team to commissioning manuscripts, as well as editing and proofing the final text.
Immediate Media
Mar, 2013 —
Apr, 2015
(about 2 years)
■ At Immediate I worked across five monthly titles, including the award-winning CBeebies Special magazine, which focuses on a different CBeebies brand every month. I was involved with all aspects of the editorial development, from contributing ideas at a flat plan to proofing the magazines before going to press.
Egmont UK
Jan, 2012 —
Feb, 2013
(about 1 year)
■ I worked on the busy Disney magazines and annuals team, with my main editorial duties including writing original copy and subbing externally supplied pages to the in-house standard.
