Projects
'The Academy & the Award: The Coming of Age of Oscar & the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' by Bruce Davis
From 2021-2022, I worked with Brandeis University Press and author Bruce Davis to publicize 'The Academy & the Award'.
I utilised award season buzz to insert Davis's voice into the conversation, highlighting the importance of how the past influences the present. Consequently, Davis appeared on NPR’s Morning Edition (live), was quoted on NPR’s All Things Considered, and had features in Deadline, A.V. Club, Hollywood Reporter, and Variety. In addition, I secured traditional review spots for Davis in the New York Times, Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal, and Foreword Reviews.
'Belle Greene' by Alexandra Lapierre
From 2021-2022, I worked with Europa Editions and French author Alexandra Lapierre to promote her historical fiction 'Belle Greene' about the true story of Belle da Costa Greene. Greene is one of the most prominent librarians in American history, known for her integral contribution to the Morgan Library in New York. Yet Greene hid a criminal secret—she was a Black woman passing as white in a violently racist America at the turn of the 20th century.
Through strategic and thoughtful efforts, I secured review coverage in Kirkus (starred), round-ups in Town & Country, Lit Hub, Book Riot, Reader’s Digest, Oprah Daily and The Sunday Times, among others.
'The Acrobat' by Edward J. Delaney
From 2021-2022, I worked with independent publisher Turtle Point Press to promote Edward J. Delaney’s novel ‘The Acrobat'. The Acrobat is a biographical reimagining of Carey Grant’s life.
To best position Delaney’s expertise in the media, I focused on his research and fictional writing of a known figure. As a result, Delaney was interviewed on NPR’s Weekend Edition which is syndicated across over 794 stations nationwide in the US, Writer’s Digest, and Lit Hub’s Keen On. In addition to this coverage, I secured traditional review spots for Delaney in Kirkus Reviews (Starred), Publisher’s Weekly (Starred), Foreword Reviews, Los Angeles Times, which was syndicated on Aol and Yahoo News, and an excerpt on Lit Hub, among others.
'Written Out: The Silencing of Regina Gelana Twala' by Joel Cabrita
From 2022-2023, I worked with Ohio University Press and author Joel Cabrita to promote the first biography of Regina Gelana Twala titled, ‘Written Out’.
Highlights of the campaign include international coverage in The Guardian and BBC: Focus on Africa, as well as nationally in the U.S., with an interview on NPR's The Takeaway. Additionally, the book appeared in African-lit outlets Brittle Paper, Down River Road (print only), Johannesburg Review of Books, etc., along with American-lit outlets The Millions, Library Journal, and Lit Hub to name a few. The result was a 25% average increase in global Google searches for Twala’s name during publication year than the previous year.
'The Dark Remains: Laidlaw's First Case' by Ian Rankin and William McIlvanney
From 2021-2022, I worked with the publisher Europa Editions alongside Canongate to promote the late William McIlvanney and Ian Rankin’s crime novel The Dark Remains.
The book was a Sunday Times Bestseller and The Crime and Thriller Book of the Year 2022. Highlights of the campaign include reviews in Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Publishers Weekly, Booklist (starred) round-ups in the Financial Times, The Guardian, a feature in The Big Thrill, an essay in Lit Hub’s Crime Reads, and an interview on nationally syndicated CBC’s The Sunday Magazine among others.
'Ode To A Cemetery' by Bethany Jacobson
This November, I have been working with author Bethany Jacobson to promote her Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to produce and publish her photography book, 'Ode To A Cemetery.'
I have provided strategy on email marketing and social media, as well as implementation of both. Our efforts paid off as we were able to reach 83% of our funding goal in the first nine days of the one-month campaign.
