Edward Pearce

Edward Pearce – Editor

Editor and proofreader with over a decade in London publishing, from bestselling history and culture to illustrated reference and how-to.

Overview

I'm a professional book editor with a degree in English Literature from the University of Cambridge and over a decade of experience working on high-quality non-fiction at a leading independent publisher in central London. My work spans illustrated and text-led books across history, biography, cultural criticism, literature, theatre, art, fashion, archaeology, how-to and more, while I'm also an avid novel-reader, with experience of literary agencies and the submissions process. I recently aced editing and proofreading tests for a leading commercial publisher, so you can be sure my skills are still sharp!

I'd love to help structure your book for maximum effect, make your prose sing, and perhaps even help you become a better writer in the process. Whether it's simply drawing out your voice or honing certain qualities, I tailor my edit to the project. Having worked with literary stylists, academics and non-native writers, I can assess what help you need, rewrite with style or simply check for typos, as needed. As a mentor for interns and new starters at work, I'm also well-placed to help new authors understand the process.

Beyond publishing, I'm passionate about the arts, food, sport, travel, comedy and current affairs, notorious among friends for wordplay and impractical jokes, and recently appeared on Only Connect.
