Overview
I have been writing and editing fiction, academically or professionally, for over five years. I have a foundation of developmental editing skills built through my study of creative writing at Kenyon College and further reinforced through my work as a fiction editor at the recently re-launched MAYDAY Magazine, affiliated with New American Press. I have spent time at two independent publishers, Agate Publishing House and Tin House Books, through which I've worked with dozens of manuscripts in production, from acquisition to final proofing. Currently, I am employed by Scholastic Book Fairs as a production editor, and I work as a prose editor with Arcturus magazine.
Between my work with the Kenyon Review, MAYDAY Magazine, and Arcturus, I have worked developmentally on over forty fiction pieces which have seen publication, online or in print.
Through Agate and Tin House, I copy edited or proofread nearly ten different titles, across diverse genres and markets. Three of these titles are forthcoming from Tin House Books. I have worked with writing from renowned Chicago Tribune journalist Mary Schmich, debut author Talia Lakshmi Kolluri, and lead singer and songwriter of Fleet Foxes Robin Pecknold, among others. And while my work with Scholastic is more focused on the production elements of publishing than my previous employment, my copyediting and proofreading skills have been kept sharp by working directly with over 60 titles (and counting!) for young readers. I've also developed my abilities as a fact checker, a very necessary aspect of working on nonfiction titles for school-aged readers.
(As a note: due to my current employment status with Scholastic, I am unable to work on books geared for readers under the age of 10)
As a writer as well as an editor, I'm intimately aware of how important editorial support--from the nitty-gritty of checking proofing corrections, to grand-scale developmental work--can be for all writers, especially those working to make their debut. I am a firm believer in the power and value of the written word, and I will always strive to make all writing I work with the best possible version of itself.
If you are looking to find an editor who cares as much for your work as you do (or as close as possible, that is) then please get in touch! I'd love to get to work with you soon.
