I'm a published writer myself, so I know how important this stuff is! Let me break it down. The three services are offer are:
1. INTERIOR FORMATTING
Whether Kindle or paperback, the presentation of the text is as important as the content. The best written message will ultimately fail in its delivery if the formatting of that message repels the eye. I favor classic arrangements that invite the eye, and I prefer fonts that making the reading experience warmer. I have zero room for error, and I obsessively check every detail from front to back. My finished products are always examples of professional perfectionism. My prices for interior formatting are always based on word count:
eBook interior formatting = $40 per 10,000 words.
Paperback interior formatting = $60 per 10,000 words.
eBook and Paperback bundle = $75 per 10,000 words.
2. COVER DESIGN
Anyone familiar with the art of the Beat generation or the album covers of the Blue Note jazz years will find my book covers reminiscent of that style. I can do simple Kindle covers or full paperback covers (front, spine, back flap). For me, “vintage” is the name of the game here. I usually create multiple cover possibilities and let the client pick their favorite, and we go from there. Cover prices are as follows:
eBook cover only = $200
Paperback cover only (including spine and back flap) = $200 + $15 per 10,000 words
eBook and Paperback bundle = contingent
3. MANUSCRIPT CONSULTING
Not all clients will require this service, but those who are new to self-publishing may want consider it. You'd be surprised how many manuscripts I receive that are not ready for formatting. Basically, this service entails me going through the manuscript and making sure it really is print-ready, as it should be for formatting. There is a flat rate of $100 for this service.
WORKING WITH ME
I prefer to work closely with my clients and develop a professional relationship. It is important for me to possess a full understanding of exactly what the client wants. To that end, open communication with the client is encouraged. If the product is not what you want, I’ll keep at it until it is. My preference is to have some time to read the book, or at least part of it, to better understand your project before I begin thinking in artistic terms. But if time is an issue I can skip that step as long as you communicate clearly what sort of artistic tone you're going for. If the client so desires, we can chat via Zoom/Skype if necessary.
When contacting me for a contract, please be as specific as possible as to which of the above services you're interested in.
NOTE: I keep a regular 9-5 weekday hour. I do not work on weekends.
I've been formatting professional book interiors and designing book covers for over 10 years. I do this stuff with my eyes closed. Poetry, prose, photography, art, diaries... I can format anything and making it pleasing to the eye.
