Megan Records – Editor

Former Kensington editor with 17 years' experience, specializing in romance, mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, & YA. Let's make your project shine!

Overview

Want to self publish your book? Looking for feedback before submitting to agents and editors? Trying to revise after a few rejections? You've come to the right place.

WHO AM I?

· I've got 17 years of experience, including 5 as an acquiring editor at Kensington Publishing.

· I now edit most types of fiction, including all genres of romance, mystery, fantasy (character-driven, cozy, and urban), sci-fi (dystopian, steampunk, time-travel), and YA.

· My goal is to help you best tell the story you want to tell. Most writers have had these stories in their head for years. I want to help you get them from your brain to the page in an engaging way that's sure to captivate your reader while staying true to your vision.

MY EDITING MOTTO: A good editor is a coach--not a critic.

· I offer specific, actionable feedback that not only strengthens your story but helps you learn and grow as a writer.

· I'll point out what you're doing right as well as making suggestions for what's not working.

WHO YOU ARE

· Whether you are looking to self-publish or pursuing traditional publishing (or you just don't know yet), I've handled authors at every stage of their journey. I've worked with authors who are just starting out and ones at the top of their publishing game, including NYT and USA Today bestselling authors.

· Edits can seem scary, but they don't have to be! Clients often tell me they felt nervous about receiving feedback, but my approach made them feel energized and gave them back the "spark" they needed to finish revising. My job is to give you the knowledge and confidence to help reach your goal, whatever it may be.

Working with Megan was a dream. She gave her all and I received a manuscript that had been edited and thought deeply about. She delivered in a week which I thought was crazy for the amount of time and effort she put into it. I am eternally grateful for the new ways she made me think about my nove...

Working with Megan was great! She was prompt, professional, and also very friendly. I didn’t know how I would feel when I got my first ever editorial memo, but I was surprised to find that when I reached the end of it, the thing I felt most was excited! I could tell Megan really “got” my story, a...
