Overview
Having worked full-time in the magazine industry since 2001, first in contract publishing and later for one of Ireland's leading monthly magazines, where I remained for over 14 years and developed my skills and experience, I decided to go out on my own at the end of 2019 to broaden my work as a journalist and editor (and enjoy the freedom of working for myself).
As managing editor for a women's magazine, commissioning features and highlighting incredible writers, I had built strong relationships with various book publishers and wanted to focus my editing work more on books. I have since worked with various book publishers as a proofreader, copy editor, editor and ghostwriter. I particularly enjoy taking on projects that personally speak to me as a reader and love to work with writers to help them take their manuscript to the next level and reach their intended audience. While my experience is mostly in non-fiction, I have edited one fiction novel and copy edited and proofread others. My most recent project was editing an exciting and anticipated memoir, the subject of which I grew hugely passionate about and this fuelled me to work especially hard to ensure it reached as many readers as possible and told the two authors' stories in an honest, heartfelt way. This experience reminded me why it's so important to choose projects that are a good fit, and to work with people who share similar values as you.

Since I went freelance, I have worked with various book and magazine publishers, PRs and private clients, writing, copy editing and proofreading. I've edited one fiction title and copy edited and proofread others. I have also edited a travel book as well as a memoir and proofread several non-fiction titles. I worked in the magazine industry full-time for nearly 20 years before I went freelance and in that time I developed my skills and experience as a writer and editor.

As Managing Editor of one of Ireland's leading women's monthly magazines, I wrote and commissioned feature articles and subedited all the pages – both raw copy and layouts – of every issue, working alongside the editor, the entire editorial team as well as the design team and wider organisation. I also worked on other magazine titles within the company, including Cara and Image Interiors and Living as well as our online title and performed copy editing for various other sections of IMAGE Media.
