Mateja Pivk – Designer

I have been working in the field of illustration for more than 10 years. My basis are classical mediums such as pencil drawing, watercolour and gouache, but most of my professional work is done digitally to help speed up the process and to cut out the cost of scanning and post production as to have time to concentrate on other aspects such as character design, mood and feeling of the illustration.

Children’s illustration and animal portraits are nearest and dearest to my heart and soul. The first is playful and full of boundless imagination, while the second is more controlled, profound, and complex.

I believe that children and teenagers are the ones who will shape the world when our generation becomes frail and in need of help. Therefore, I think that educating children and teenagers is an extremely delicate and important role in today's world. It is not just factual knowledge that is necessary, but also practical knowledge, the ability to introspect, empathy, the ability to collaborate, and above all, the ability to learn independently and realize their own potentials and aspirations.
