Overview
Hi, my name is Martina and I'm a designer and illustrator based in London.
I'm originally from Italy, but I lived in Sweden, Denmark and the UK as well.
Travelling and living in different places played a significant role in the development of my illustration style, and it occasionally comes up in my illustration subjects.
I studied Design and Visual Communication at the Polytechnic University of Turin, in Italy, and I then specialised in UX Design with a MSc at the University of Brighton, in the UK. In addition to my love for design, I've always been extremely passionate about illustration and books, so I've been pursuing my illustration career since 2016, focusing primarily on editorial work.
My design background was extremely valuable in helping me develop my illustration work and allowed me to combine my skills to work on a variety of commissions.
Over the last 8 years, I've worked for magazines, self-published authors, and publishing houses, bringing to life incredible stories, characters, poems, and unique ideas. My experience in working on a wide range of genres and types of project, allowed to have a structured work and communication method and being able to build a solid relationship with the clients, by collaborating on studying the target audience, and the author's goals and expectations.
Looking forward to hearing about your next idea!

Work experience
Bauer Media
During the day I work as a Product Designer at Bauer Media, one of the world’s largest media businesses, focusing on the audio experience. In my day job I explore how people interact with digital products and I work on designing a user-centred, accessible and enjoyable experience for them.
Self-employed
I've been working as a freelance illustrator in the last few years, specialising in editorial design.
My work is characterised by the exploration of indoor spaces, daily objects and the concept of home.
I’ve always been fascinated by places and their stories.
In my illustrations I like to shift the perspective and turn the little details and the daily objects that belong to a space into the protagonists.
I’m interested in exploring the meanings that places, and objects, carry with them - the stories and the memories that they evoke.
The colour blue is a recurrent theme in my work, which helps me represent the sense of nostalgia associated to places that play(ed) a significant role in our lives.
