Madeline Pettet

Madeline Pettet – Editor

Project Editor with 7 years' experience in corporate and educational materials and a passion for the furred and fanged in paranormal romance

Overview

With 7 years' experience in a wide range of materials, from PhD theses about generational views of refugees to Australia to scripts about mental health collaboratively written by high school students, I love making manuscripts the best they can be.

When it comes to academia and educational materials, I have firsthand experience of the requirements of journals and PhD theses, and have edited academic material in a number of fields, including child psychology, sociology, fantasy fiction and gender studies. My overall aim for any academic piece is that it is accessible and my own academic journey, combined with my time at Triple P International where I took child psychology PhD theses that had been translated into training courses for doctors, nurses and early childhood educators and made them easily understandable for both the tertiary educated practitioner and the average parent and child. I also have a special love for academic referencing — to me there are very few things more satisfying than a properly written reference list or bibliography.

As a corporate editor, I have worked on large-scale project reports and business profiles, once again striving for accessibility for clients and stakeholders. I love data and making it shine, and I find it easy to pick up new terminology.

I have also spent time in trade publishing, working with Hinkler Books to produce mass-market materials for children and adults alike. A personal favourite is the Epic Beasts Colouring and Activity Book where I developed character profiles for a variety of epic beasts — this was such a creative feast! Tied with Epic Beasts, I loved working on The Nature of Wicca Book and Oracle Set. I've always had a passion for the magical and getting to deep-dive into Wicca manuscript was a delight.

My personal passion lies in paranormal romance. I've devoured countless novels and series and have even devoted study to the genre in both my Honours and PhD. If a book has a werewolf in it, I have to buy it; I was writing vampire stories as a 7 year old; and I find the allegory of witches to feminism endlessly fascinating. If you've got a paranormal romance story, I'm ready to jump in!
