Work experience

Freelance copy-editor and proofreader

HarperCollins Publishers

May, 1998 – Present (almost 19 years)

I have been freelancing for HarperCollins for nearly twenty years now, proofreading and editing titles both in the traditional style on paper, and increasingly on-screen. I have also had stints of working in-house as part of their editorial team, covering for holidays and maternity leave as and when needed. I also worked as part of a team recoding texts for digital use, and am now working on an ongoing basis for the Killer Reads team, which publishes crime fiction straight to eBook. I have also worked on their historical fiction, romantic fiction, fantasy fiction and some non-fiction titles. Below is just a small sample of the titles I have either edited or proofread for them.

In addition to my work for HarperCollins and other mainstream publishers, I have recently been working with a friend on her memoirs, and also a selection of short stories. These are yet to be published, but the work has involved a certain amount to rewriting as well as advice and editorial input on my side.
