As the senior member of the editorial team in the Department of Curriculum Studies, I manage complex educational content development projects for primary and secondary education.
Key roles include:
Developing and managing primary and secondary education projects from the conception stage through to printing, including commissioning, author management, and research.
Leading the editorial team and overseeing performance management and career development for team members.
Developing content, commissioning authors, artwork and images, coordinating design and printing, budgeting, and structural editing.
Development of pedagogy and teaching tools and materials.

Head of editorial production of a monthly B2B magazine for the hospitality industry Responsibilities included issue planning, investigating and writing news stories, features and general editorial content, supervising staff, developing marketing opportunities and developing business relationships within the hospitality community.
Key achievements included:
Developing novel opportunities to link content and advertising, such as devising a series of articles following the construction of a new hotel complex.
Upgrading content to a high standard, and positioning the publication as a partner with industry stakeholders in the region.
Self-employed
Worked on short-term contracts and freelance basis, developing a wide variety of editorial projects. I was responsible for commissioning, editing, writing, photoshoots and some design elements. I specialised in development of new products in education, science, business, and history projects for publishers including Grolier, Gale, Penguin and Little Red Ant.
Key achievements included:
Designing and writing materials, and conducting photo shoots for several science kits.
Contributing to science, social science and business encyclopedias for the US primary and secondary school market.
Concept design, editing, writing and managing photo shoots for a 30+ book series on religion for UK schools.
Dorling Kindersley
Contract and freelance project manager and researcher in the children’s division, in charge of new product development. Responsibilities included researching, concept development and pitching new titles and projects, project managing and editing multi-book series, writing, commissioning, managing photoshoots, and developing kits.
Key achievements included:
Concept development, project managing, writing and editing the fabulously successful Watch Me Grow series, which was translated into 20 languages.
Project managing, writing, editing, and developing and creating all activities for the Cool Stuff science kit, including managing and organizing a complex series of photo shoots and equipment lists for the kit.
Atlantic Europe Publishing
Senior member of an editorial team at a dynamic educational publisher providing curriculum materials to teachers, schools and parents across a range of channels and platforms.
Key roles include:
Managing complex web-based, digital and print projects and developing written material, videos, and digital media to very specific pedagogical standards.
Developing new publishing projects to a high standard, including commissioning artwork and images, social media, SEO, copywriting, co-ordinating with stakeholders, research and concept design.
Developing sales and marketing strategies, championing the brand at public events, and developing customer surveys.

Head of editorial production for a busy weekly newspaper. Responsibilities included investigating and writing lead stories, features and special sections, developing marketing opportunities, commissioning writers and photographers, and developing working relationships with community, political and business leaders.
Key achievements included:
Breaking a lead story on underage employment which was picked up by national news outlets and eventually influenced state employment policy.
Building a strong relationship with the local business community and developing an enhanced revenue base.
