Laura S.

Laura S. ā€“ Editor

Let me be your book's therapist! I'm an author with Penguin Random House, Titan Books, + other major publishers, and I've edited Big5 books.

Overview

WHO AM I?

Iā€™m Laura, and as an editor I've been privileged to work with authors who have gone on to publish with Hodderscape, Disney-Hyperion, HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, Angry Robot, and Viking. My clients include World Fantasy Award finalists and Sydney Taylor Book Award winners. I've also had the pleasure of working with #1 bestselling indie authors, including authors featured in Amazon's new "best of booktok" category. My debut adult fantasy novel, THE SINS ON THEIR BONES, was published by Penguin Random House in summer 2024. Titan Books will publish my novel THE WAY IT HAUNTED HIM, an adult horror, in 2026. I have an unannounced paranormal romance on the way with a major publisher as well. Finally, I co-write contemporary romance!

I enjoy working with all forms of fiction, although I specialize in fantasy, romantasy, romance, historical fiction, and horror in all age ranges. As a queer person, I love working with others from marginalized communities to bring their stories to life.

WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU?

Are you stuck in the writing process somewhere - getting an idea off the ground, continuing on with a draft, finding the motivation to keep going, untangling plot snags? Let me help! I think of myself as a "book therapist" and I talk with clients to help them figure out plot problems, design a writing method that works for them, and more.

I've worked with authors who have written many books, and authors who have finished their first manuscript. I've also worked with writers who are in the idea stage and haven't yet put pen to paper (or who are having trouble figuring out how to finish a book) as a book coach. If you're ready to dive into your manuscript or book idea and work hard to make it ready for prime time, I'm your editor. I'll work with you to make your book into the best it can be, and then help you through the process of self-publishing or getting an agent.

When I work with authors, I strive to be collaborative, encouraging, and fun. I also know exactly what author life is like, and what hurdles authors face. Editing shouldn't be the worst part of the publishing process-it's where your book begins to truly shine, and I want you to enjoy the ride!

Laura showed a lot of excitement and immediate enthusiasm about my project, which made her a joy to work with. She responded quickly to messages and offered great feedback in an encouraging way. I gained a lot of insight in my own work through her suggestions, and would definitely collaborate with her again.

Most of the observations she made of my text were clear, and she was very kind to explain them further later. Overall it helped me a lot with my goals.

Laura was really helpful in motivating me to continue writing. She was able to understand my concerns when it came to which direction I should take with my novel. She was professional and supportive. Her own experience as a writer made it easy to connect with her. Thanks for your help, Laura! =]
