Overview
I’ve been fortunate to have worked with really terrific authors on a variety of fascinating books. Regardless of what one writes about, book authors all have one thing in common: they all have something to say. But for how public an industry book publishing is, the act of writing can be strangely solitary—that’s where a good editor can make all the difference as you work to bring your ideas forward.
For more than fifteen years I’ve worked in both academic and trade publishing, first in a support role curating illustration programs, researching permissions and copyrights, and advising authors on editorial guidelines, matters of house style, and citations. As an editor, books I’ve worked on have ranged from biographies and memoirs to works of natural history.
I enjoy working with both academic authors as well as those seeking a broader general interest audience. When performing a developmental edit on a manuscript, I pay close attention to structure and flow, pointing out areas for revision as needed. I’ve also coordinated images for several heavily illustrated books and enjoy the work of researching artwork, curating illustrations, drafting captions, and negotiating permissions.
Many of the books I’ve worked on start at the proposal stage, and I often coach first-time authors on how to develop this important document. A well crafted book proposal is a crucial tool for not only a potential publisher, but also for you as an author. It can help guide the writing and will also help you pinpoint your audience.
When working together, authors can expect me to be clear and consistent in communication, responsive to your needs and desires for the book, and engaged throughout the development and editing process.
I look forward to working with you!

Work experience
University of Minnesota Press
I acquire and develop 8-10 books per year in history, natural science, regional studies, and other topics, and enjoy working on both academic and general interest/trade books. I also coach authors on proposal development and serve as a project manager/art coordinator for high-profile, heavily illustrated books.

As an editorial assistant I provided support to academic, regional, and trade editors, managed editorial pipelines, and was responsible for author coordination on approximately thirty titles per year across two seasons. I also managed copyright and permission clearances and scouted illustrations for select projects.
