Katie Bucklein – Editor

After working as a Pitch Wars mentor and completing my Bachelor's degree in history, I shifted my focus to freelance editing to utilize the nine years of experience I have in the publishing industry. My talents lie with characterization, worldbuilding, dialogue, plot beats, and romance, and I've written across the genres in both YA and Adult. My two most prominent genres are fantasy—and all fantasy's subgenres, but especially fantasy romance, epic fantasy, and contemporary fantasy—and romance, though I've successfully married my history degree with historical fiction. I've helped numerous authors go on to sell their books to the Big 5, as evidenced in my portfolio, and excel with writing and editing query letters. I am also a writer with a literary agent, so I know what works to catch eyes.

I provide developmental editing, editorial assessments, copyediting, proofreading, and query letter review. Developmental edits and editorial assessments result in an in-depth edit letter, detailing macro and micro edits. Copyediting and proofreading result in edits completed via Track Changes. For query letters, I offer two rounds: the first is an edit of what you’ve already written; the second is to fine-tune what you’ve revised. When the client has received their feedback, I suggest they read it once, set it aside for a day or two, and read it again before creating a game plan, after which I welcome them to email with any further questions or requests for advice.
