Katherine Halligan – Editor

Award-winning author and highly experienced former publisher of illustrated children's books

Overview

I am a highly experienced former editorial director of children's books, specializing in picture books, illustrated non-fiction, novelty, and gift. I have held senior roles at various UK publishers, including Macmillan, Scholastic, Simon & Schuster, Nosy Crow and Penguin Random House. As a versatile and dynamic children's book publisher, I have edited, commissioned and published hundreds of successful titles, and I have written over 150 books as an editor. Some of my best-known editorial projects include:

* The Lion, The Unicorn and Me, by Jeannette Winterson and Rosalind MacCurrach (Scholastic UK)
* Eliot Jones, Midnight Superhero, by Anne Cottringer and Alex T. Smith (Scholastic UK)
* My Mum is a Supermum, by Angela McAllister and Alex T. Smith (Scholastic UK)
* You Can't Eat a Princess! by Gillian Rogerson and Sarah McIntyre (Scholastic UK)
* Aliens Love Underpants, by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort (Simon & Schuster UK)
* The Perfect Bear, by Gillian Shields and Gary Blythe (Simon & Schuster UK)
* This Little Baby (Campbell Books UK)
* Poppy Cat, by Lara Jones (Campbell Books UK)
* How To Help a Hedgehog and Protect a Polar Bear, by Jess French and Angela Keoghan (Nosy Crow)
* So You Think You've Got It Bad? A Kid's Life in Ancient Egypt, by Chae Strathie and Marisa Morea (Nosy Crow)

I am also the award-winning author of HerStory (illustrated by Sarah Walsh, published by Nosy Crow UK/ Simon & Schuster US), as well as several other new and forthcoming titles published by Walker Books and Nosy Crow.

I love every part of the creative process, and with many years of experience in making books and leading teams, I am proud of all my books. I believe in creating child-centred books that entertain and delight, whether they are fact or fiction, and that the very best books should make you laugh or cry... or sometimes both! I also believe that creating a book should be a happy experience for all involved, so I bring positivity and fun to all my projects.

Katherine's input to my picture book project exceeded my expectations. Her replies and analyses of my texts were prompt, perceptive and professional. While I appreciated her compliments on what I had done right, her rerview of shortcomings in the story texts were honest and openly expressed, and came with practical solutions derrived from her own wide ex.perience. She took the extra trouble to...
