Rebecca Jones

Rebecca Jones – Editor

Ten years' experience in publishing industry across three major literary agencies, I specialize in commercial fiction, children's and YA.

Overview

I provide in-depth editorial consultancy reports, manuscript assessments and submission advice for writers preparing to approach agents. With a career spanning three major literary agencies and including UK, US and international territories, I have up-to-date knowledge of the current market and experience evaluating and developing numerous manuscripts. I have held senior positions at Rogers, Coleridge and White and Ed Victor Ltd, and I specialize in commercial fiction (women's fiction, historical, fantasy, crime and thrillers), as well as children's and YA fiction.

I was Junior Agent at the literary agency The Wylie Agency for two years, reviewing literary and general fiction and non-fiction and managing a list of authors. I moved to the agency Ed Victor Ltd, where I handled international translation rights across their adult and children’s lists and spent a year running the rights department. I joined Rogers, Coleridge and White as Foreign Rights Manager in 2014, developing their commercial fiction and children’s and YA sales and working with authors including Ian Rankin, Jenny Colgan, Joanne Harris and the children’s writer Katherine Rundell. I have a First class degree in English from the University of Cambridge.

I can provide structural and developmental editing, manuscript assessments, and query letter and submission to agent reviews.

I have worked with Rebecca twice now and each time benefited hugely from her experience and insight. Her structural reports are incredibly detailed. She picks out pages/paragraphs that work well, and also highlights those passages that aren't working as hard as they need to. I particularly appreciate her developmental edits because she is able to see the big picture much better than me. She ...

From the very beginning Rebecca was friendly and professional. She gave me clear timelines she could work to, and what feedback she would provide. I asked for a developmental edit and I received inline comments on mym/s, as well as a detailed report on what she felt was working, and what she felt needed improvement, and made great suggestions for the improvements. What really impressed me was...

Constructing stories is hard. But it's a great deal easier with a mentor / editor who can step in and guide with a clarity, calmness and wisdom. Rebecca has these traits in spades. She has taken me by the hand and taught me, goaded me and flattered me when necessary to keep me pushing on to negotiate the necessary changes to my MS to reach, I hope, the next level. Rebecca is not exactly ine...
