I'm Jonathan, an illustrator based in Southern California with a completed art degree from California State University of Long Beach.

With over 10 years of experience in freelancing art, I specialize in narrative illustration, character design, and book cover design. I strive for a unique art style that is a blend of delicate linework with painterly watercolor rendering. I desire to bring this creative sensibility to all my projects and craft a unique angle for each client's particular ideas. All my work is handmade through either traditional media, or digital tools, which allow me the greatest flexibility to create the best creative solutions for my projects.

As the illustrator in your project, I connect your readers to your story through beautiful artwork that showcases the imagination of the author. When working with me, I like to have the author's input at every major decision moment. From thumbnailing sketches, making color decisions, and choosing the typography that matches the mood and tone.

I'm a fan at heart of amazing stories from human beings. Please do not send AI-GENERATED mockup book covers, as I believe this can stifle the creative direction of the collaboration and result in something that lacks true creative input from myself. Direct-to-replicate projects do not interest me. I value your unique ideas, and the opportunity to use the written word to generate fresh ideas that can be the foundation for truly amazing artwork that your readers will enjoy.

MY PROCESS

From consultation to final delivery, my goal is to lighten the burden of creating the visual side of your book by offering services to create your book cover.

1. I read your manuscript, followed by talks about your project to discover your needs.

2. I then conduct deep research with thumbnail sketches, with your input at the end of the process.

3. We choose a concept and implement color decisions to present a refined concept.

4. I then render the final artwork and begin talks about typography and cover layout needs.

5. Based on your feedback, I then craft the final cover.
