Jerusha Rodgers

Jerusha Rodgers – Editor

My expertise is developmental and copy editing as well as proofreading with clients ranging from Big Five publishers to independent authors.

Overview

My freelance credits include projects with publishing houses of all sizes from the Big Five (Simon & Schuster, Hachette, Penguin Random House) to boutique presses (Unbridled Books) as well as independent authors. As a developmental editor—or Plot Whisperer—I help authors discover not only the structure of their story but also its depth. My unique, tactile approach identifies plot holes, finds areas with lagging pace, allows for quick and easy scene/plot point movement, and helps prevent writer's block before it begins. I have used it for memoirs, lifestyle books, and novels. In 2016, NYT bestselling author Joni Rodgers and I presented a class at Book Expo America's UPubU on how plot whispering works. I am known for my eagle eye when it comes to copyediting, specializing in continuity and fact-checking. I excel in challenging projects with quick turnaround times. In the words of Cake, "She is fast, thorough, and sharp as a tack." Before I took up the red pen, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in English from Sam Houston State University, where I was a contributing writer to the university paper, The Houstonian. While in college, I served as social media liaison for the League of Extraordinary Authors, contributed a blog series on American Poets Laureate to Boxing the Octopus, worked as an apprentice on a number of high profile and celebrity book projects, read voraciously, and backpacked Wild-style throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. Client kudos: “Rodgers is a percipient interpreter of story…She is a writer's dream date.”
~ Dr. Wendy Walsh, TIME Magazine Silence Breaker/Person of the Year
“Jerusha Rodgers’ eagle eye missed nothing. As an added bonus, Jerusha was fun to work with.”
~ Linda Barrett, award-winning author
“We could never thank you enough for your guidance, your organization, your help, and most of all your patience and your friendship.”
~ Amie and Jolie Sikes, TV personalities
“The energy, enthusiasm, and expertise she brings to her work will quickly make her an indispensable part of your team.”
~ Colleen Thompson, award-winning author
“Don't even think about crafting your own proposal without [Your Title Here].”

Jerusha is a pleasure to work with. She helped shape my book and offered advice throughout the entire edit. She really understood my vision and made this part of the process really exciting for me. Her edits and assignments were super helpful. I know my book wouldn't be where it is now without her.
