Jenny Pierson – Editor

Editor. Hero of the hyphen. Certifiable grammar nut. Making your book proposal, manuscript, or article even more amazing is my calling!

Overview

I'm an editor currently only accepting select short copyediting or proofreading projects until further notice.

"Hero of the hyphen," as two clients called me. Certifiable grammar nut. Making your book proposal, short manuscript, or article even more amazing is my calling!

With four years of experience at an independent trade publisher working in nearly every department (so I am an expert on what happens to your book every step of the way), and seven years of experience working at an independent nonprofit to support journalists and syndicate their work to hundreds of news websites around the world that can feature their book in their bio, I've got you covered from soup to nuts (or ebook to blurbs). I love authors who are motivated, especially ones who have a brand or are otherwise invested in their book's material beyond the page on a daily basis.

Let's make books that will change people's lives—books that are useful, entertaining, and unique. I'll help you whip your book proposal, manuscript, or article into its best shape and make it available to readers as quickly and efficiently as possible. I am an extremely thorough proofreader/editor, and I care very much about the projects I take on. I am no-nonsense about grammar and punctuation, but I love a good pun.

My services include proofreading and copyediting nonfiction book proposals (in their entirety or just one section/element), op-eds/articles to promote your book or grow your author platform, and other short documents (under 2,000 words).

I have a background in editorial consultation guiding authors through evaluating the big picture about the process of pitching a book and getting a book deal and how their book proposal fits in that process, and while in 2023 I narrowed my focus to proofreading/copyediting, I bring that awareness to every project and stroke of my red pen.

Copyediting improves the clarity, consistency, and quality of your writing to effectively communicate your story to readers (and publishers/literary agents, if you choose to pursue them).

Proofreading is my specialty. I correct any errors in spelling and grammar. I can also help with consistent document formatting (spacing between words/lines/paragraphs and text appearance on the page). Punctuation is my passion, and I will scrutinize every comma if that's what you want.

Subjects of Interest: Nonfiction Guides/How-To, Nonfiction Narrative, Health & Fitness, Art History & Photography, Memoir, New Media/Viral Trends, Humor, Gift, Reference

What makes me most excited about a project is when an author's calling would benefit the public, not just sell books or feed their ego—and they have to believe it too! (I can help hype nervous clients up about their expertise.)
