Jennifer Turnquist – Editor

With 20+ years of copy editing and proofreading experience, I'm ready to help you make your manuscript shine!

Overview

I have been enhancing the readability of documents since I started out in editing as a proofreader at a large firm in 1988. This was followed by five years as a laboratory technician in neurophysiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, a position that included copy editing journal articles and book chapters. Since that time, I have continued editing on a freelance basis.

In addition to copy editing hundreds of psychology and healthcare articles, I have worked on books from prestigious academic presses. These books address a variety of topics, from reading theory in the digital age to stardom in Hong Kong. I have edited both single-author and multi-author volumes and have worked many times with ESL authors. I also have substantial experience proofreading and copy editing works of fiction and creative nonfiction, including short stories, memoirs, and novels.

I am an avid reader of literary fiction (including the classics), biographies and memoirs, and books on popular history, writing and editing, Christianity, and gardening (especially gardening and landscaping with native plants). Recent favorites include Planting in a Post-Wild World, Killers of the Flower Moon, Anna Karenina, The Habit of Being: Letters of Flannery O’Connor, Introductory Papers on Dante: The Poet Alive in His Writings, The Long Loneliness, and All My Knotted-Up Life.

Whatever the level of editing you're seeking, I work hard to honor your personal style and provide clear, tactful comments and suggestions. My goal is to provide professional, encouraging feedback to help bring your words to life!
