Jenna Blum – Editor

NYT bestselling author, 27-year novel workshop leader, and editor dedicated to helping get your book published! #BookWhisperer #QueryQueen

Overview

Hi! Thanks for checking out my profile.

I'm Jenna. I've been writing since I was four and a professional author since I was 16, when I won Seventeen Magazine's National Fiction Contest. Now I'm the New York Times and internationally bestselling author of four novels and a memoir, an audiocourse on writing fiction, and an historical podcast. I'm also one of Oprah's Top 30 Women Writers! Since earning my M.A. from Boston University in 1996, I've been running novel workshops and editing manuscripts, and in those 27 years, I'm thrilled to have helped a LOT of authors get published with the Big 5 publishers and independent presses (please check out my list!).

I'm also a practicing and touring author; currently I'm promoting my latest novel and first thriller, MURDER YOUR DARLINGS, out in Jan. 26, so I can empathize with and support you in every step of the writing process.

WHAT I WORK ON:

* contemporary, literary, commercial, and historical fiction;

* memoir

*query letters

(**please note: I cannot legally work on books written using AI!)

WHAT I PROVIDE:

*comprehensive market assessment of your book before you go on sub;

* thorough line-edit;

* 10 - 12 page reverse outline--a chapter-by-chapter blueprint of your book to assess structure and pacing (99% of book problems are architectural!);

* 10 - 12 page editorial letter summarizing my big-picture thoughts on your book's readiness and marketability, advising on everything from narrative and character arc to style and word choice;

* 1 hour of follow-up conversation once you've processed the feedback.

HOW I WORK:

* I'll read and line-edit your book, creating the reverse outline as I go, then write the editorial letter, and we'll have a conversation when you're ready!

*If you're seeking a query letter or want me to edit an existing one for maximum marketability, I'll add it to your project or do it a la carte.

WHO I WORK WITH:

* I work primarily with authors who've completed a book-length project. If you've taken a writing workshop, that's helpful but not required.

**Again, please note I can't work with anyone who's written a book using AI!

I can't wait to learn more about your work. Thank you for reaching out!

Jenna.

Work experience

Self-employed

Oct, 1986 — Aug, 2024 (almost 38 years)
I've been a professional writer since I was sixteen!, and I am now a New York Times and internationally bestselling author with four novels (Those Who Save Us; The Stormchasers; The Lost Family, Murder Your Darlings) and one memoir (Woodrow on the Bench). I'm also one of Oprah's Top 30 Women Writers, and I've written and recorded audiocourse "The Author at Work: The Art of Writing Fiction" and historical audiodrama "The Key of Love," available on all major streaming platforms. My short fiction and nonfiction has appeared in The Boston Globe, The Kenyon Review, Seventeen Magazine, and numerous literary journals. I travel nationally and internationally to speak about my work, and for my first novel alone I visited over 800 book clubs! PS, I'm also the proud servant of a six-year-old black Lab, Henry Higgins.
