Jason O’Toole

Jason O’Toole – Ghostwriter

I’ve 30 years of experience as a journalist, editor, ghostwriter, publisher, author and, more recently, branched out into filmmaking.

Overview

I’m a best-selling author of ten non-fiction titles published by major mainstream publishers and the director of the three-part docuseries Confessions of a Crime Boss, currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video UK. I also authored the book tie-in, The Gilligan Tapes, for the documentary.

As a ghostwriter, I’ve produced several titles, including two that reached #1 and #2 on The Irish Times bestseller list. I have co-written or ghostwritten titles for prominent figures, including senior politicians, business figures, and celebrities.

Under my own name, my work includes the biography of an Irish Prime Minister for Transworld and a book on boxer Katie Taylor,

Three collections of my journalism have been published in Ireland and the USA, and excerpts from my books have appeared in anthologies such as Be Inspired: Gems of Irish Publishing (Publishing Ireland, 2009) and Lord of the Files (Irish Academic Press, 2010).

I’ve held senior editorial positions at national newspapers and magazines and served as a book publisher.

Work experience

Langton’s International Agency

Mar, 2016 — Jul, 2025 (over 9 years)
I edited and rewrote books for the agency before they submit them to publishers, or publish them under their own imprint, South Central Park Publishing. I also coached their authors and offered them a comprehensive roadmap service for both novels and nonfiction books to successfully bring their work up to a publishable standard. I’ve also ghostwritten several books for prominent figures.

Hot Press Magazine & Books

Nov, 2006 — Sep, 2009 (almost 3 years)
Circulation increased during my tenure. I edited the magazine’s current affairs section and ran the book division. I also wrote the main 6,000-word cover story in most editions.

Self-employed

Sep, 2006 — Dec, 2010 (about 4 years)
I oversaw the editing, design, publishing and marketing of fourteen titles, including several best sellers. I persuaded some prominent authors to publish books with my fledging company - I generated huge headlines when I launched the company with the last Irish novel to ever be banned in the country, Paddy Maguire Is Dead by Lee Dunne. I also published best-selling titles by Bruce Arnold OBE, Jackie Hayden, who signed U2 to their first record deal as head of CBS Records, and Fr Shay Cullen, a missionary priest nominated four times for the Nobel Peace Prize. The introduction for Fr Shay’s memoir was written by former Irish President Mary Robinson.
