Hokyoung Kim

Hokyoung Kim – Designer

I am an illustrator interested in making images with strong moods and narratives.

Overview

I am a illustrator that specializes in interior illustrations and book covers. My primary focus is visualizing narratives and capturing the most captivating moments in a story. My work concentrates on characters in an environment, where a strong sense of mood and atmosphere is evoked. I want my viewer and audience to sympathize with the character, to feel what they feel, and be immersed in the scene. I can work in both realistic and more graphic styles, whichever is more suitable to the text.

I am currently an editorial illustrator working for major news outlets and magazines such as the New York Times, Buzzfeed, Sierra Magazine, Narratively, A Women's Thing, and Telemedicine Magazine, to name a few. As with novels, I capture the overall atmosphere so that the viewer can understand what the article is about without knowing too much information.
