Hanna Neier

Hanna Neier – Editor

Award-winning writer and freelance editor helping others find their voice, build their story and keep their readers turning the page.

Overview

Writing can be such a solitary experience, so congrats on emerging from the writing bubble and reaching out for feedback!

A fully-recovered attorney, I've been working as a freelance writer and editor for several years. My own work has been published in numerous publications including Lilith Magazine, Kveller and PS (formerly POPSUGAR) and I am the 2025 winner of the Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award. I am a recently agented fiction writer, so I understand the struggle is real, and I'm passionate about helping other writers achieve their literary dreams.

Over the years, I've edited manuscripts for voice, structure, pacing and so much more. Every time I see a client’s book in the library or bookstore, I can't help but feel an enormous sense of pride!

I'm known for my direct honesty (if it's not working for me I'll let you know, and I'll let you know why) but also for helping writers identify what they are doing really well and capitalizing on that. Also, I always tell writers that ultimately this is THEIR story, and I encourage everyone to take time to digest my feedback and only move in a direction if it fits their vision.

Currently, I am only taking on new clients for Book Coaching. This is a customizable experience for writers who want that one person in their corner—a Gayle to their Oprah, if you will—who is there for them when and how they need it. Picture a cheerleader/sounding board/accountability buddy/mentor/editor all rolled into one!

If you are having a hard time prioritizing your writing, I can hold you accountable for producing pages or help you create a schedule that makes room for your writing life. I can also work alongside you as an editorial sounding board while you develop your story. If you are in the editing phase but aren’t ready for (or can't afford) a full-on developmental edit, I can help you identify and work through potential issues and then coach you through creating and following your own editing plan.

If you think Book Coaching is right for you, please reach out to me for more information. I look forward to working with you!
