Work experience

Self-employed

Oct, 1996 — Present

New York-based publishing pro Stephanie G. serves her clients by playing a variety of functional roles. These days, she is highly selective about which projects and authors she takes on. She is equally agile and well versed in navigation of mainstream and self-publishing options. Her expertise and experience are deep and grounded. No matter which project Stephanie lends her skills to accomplishing (editing, vetting solutions, and more), her goal is to help her clients realize their personal vision and goals for their books.

Delacorte Press, Bantam Doubleday Dell

Oct, 1994 — Oct, 1996 (about 2 years)

Stephanie was recruited by Delacorte/Dell to establish a line of nonfiction health and wellness books published in hardcover, trade paperback, and rack-sized editions. Her specialization was the invention of book series about complementary and alternative medicine, and responding to trends of the day in the self-help industry.

HarperCollins Publishers

Oct, 1984 — Nov, 1994 (about 10 years)

Joining the Trade Department at HarperCollins right out of college, Stephanie rose from being assistant to the managing editor, to being an editorial assistant, assistant editor, and then an associate editor--at which point she acquired her first New York Times bestseller and was headhunted to join a different company as a senior editor.

Belligerent, aggressive, and impatient. I hired Stephanie as a developmental editor. I liked her long experience in editing and willingness to work with new authors. I had a challenging manuscript and needed someone very knowledgeable to help me. Unfortunately, I found that her “real tone,” as she called it, was belligerent, aggressive, and impatient. Had I known she would insult me several ti...

I had no idea what working with an editor was going to be like, and Stephanie made it SO easy. I've been an English teacher for over 22 years, and thought I wouldn't need much assistance with editing, but I was dead wrong. I had NO idea how many tedious and minute details went into perfecting a manuscript for publication! Stephanie's attention to detail was mind-boggling (seriously-- how do...

Stephanie is a fantastic editor! She conducted an excellent editorial assessment of my new book project. Her attention to detail, specificity in feedback, and insightful ideas about how to improve the content were well worth the investment of time and money. Stephanie will continue to be my first choice for future editorial projects, hands down!

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with Stephanie. She has taken my writing and concept to new levels I was hoping to achieve but not experienced enough to know how. Her patience, experience, and wisdom has made all the difference. I hope to work with her on future projects.
