Giorgia Chiarion – Designer

Book designer with 10+ years' experience in creating smart, striking, market-ready designs.

Overview

🎨 Distinctive book design that captivates and connects.

With over 10 years of experience designing for leading global publishers—including Penguin Random House, Hachette, DK, and Wonderbly—I now partner directly with authors to create bold, high-quality designs tailored to each book’s unique vision and target audience.

📚 Covers that stand out

My process begins by understanding your story, your goals, and your ideal readers. From there, I build mood boards to lock in a visual direction before diving into typography. I excel at sourcing distinctive typefaces or crafting bespoke hand-lettering where needed (you’ll find many examples of this in my gallery).

🖌️ Visual storytelling at the heart of design

Whether working with royalty-free human-made stock imagery, commissioning custom illustrations, or compositing visuals into striking layouts, I am resourceful and style-flexible. My background in personalised publishing has honed my ability to adapt to diverse aesthetics while keeping quality and visual cohesion at the forefront.

✨ Design services include:

- Cover Design (including custom hand-lettering, sourcing, and briefing illustrators)

- Interior Layout & Typesetting

- Print-Ready & EPUB File Preparation

🔍 Genres I’m especially drawn to: Lifestyle non-fiction, poetry, and contemporary fiction—essentially, any project where design plays a powerful role in helping ideas come to life and reach the right audience.

🤝 Collaborative, detail-focused, and always deadline-ready. I’d love to help bring your book to life with design that speaks volumes.

🧠 All of my design work is hand-crafted, without the use of AI.

💬 Fluent in English, Italian, and Spanish.

⭐️ Past Client Feedback ⭐️

"I was delighted that Giorgia agreed to design my book. She created a clear, stage-by-stage schedule that worked perfectly for both of us. We began by discussing the novel's themes, and Giorgia sent me inspiring mood boards to map out the direction. From there, she presented several design possibilities—all of which were tempting!

She delivered a Kindle e-version alongside paperback and hardback covers, and I've received countless compliments on the design. Everyone says, 'What a lovely cover,' and other writers have greatly admired it. The entire process was professional, enjoyable, and deeply collaborative. I would highly recommend Giorgia and would definitely work with her again." — Stephanie Norgate, author of Hartisborne

Work experience

Wonderbly

Nov, 2022 — Aug, 2024 (over 1 year)
Between November 2022 and August 2024 I worked alongside the Managing Director to create a new book list aimed at adults. During this time I established a new design team, developed the look and feel for the list, recruited new illustrators to work with us and helped come up with ideas for new products. I am particularly proud of the personalised cocktail book which became a global best-seller soon after launch in Autumn 2024.

Laurence King Publishing

Feb, 2020 — Mar, 2021 (about 1 year)
At Laurence King I was working primarily on the gift list. I worked closely with the managing director, editors and the creative team at MAGMA. I helped develop the range, recruited illustrators, supported a team of designers and designed specific products (see below for a few examples).

Giorgia is amazing and was such a pleasure to work with on my debut poetry book. I didn’t know what to expect working with a designer, but my expectations were far exceeded. Giorgia presented her ideas timely and professionally with great communication, and took my ideas and feedback into conside...

Working with Giorgia on the design of my poetry book (both the cover and the interior chapter section designs) was a truly positive experience from start to finish. She was highly responsive and took the time to clearly outline each step of the process, which made everything feel structured and r...

Giorgia--well, I almost don't want to give her the FIVE STAR review she deserves, because I don't want her to become so busy that I can't reach her, lol! But in all fairness, "G" as i began to call her, is the BUSINESS! You here me, she is all that and a bag of chips. PERIODT!

Working with Giorgia on the cover for my first book has been an absolute blessing. From the very beginning, she took in all my ideas, reflections, and half-formed images and turned them into a clear, thoughtful plan for bringing the final cover to life. She was endlessly patient with my questions...

Working with Giorgia was such a wonderful experience. She explained exactly what the process would look like, asked questions to help understand exactly what I had in mind, and then delivered a beautiful manuscript to me. I had a few small requests for tweaks which she did quickly. Truly surpasse...
